Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, our short term "Improvisation & Composition For Guitar" program will take your skills to the next level with a better understanding of music. Our curriculum covers everything from scales and chord theory to improvisation and songwriting. 

 

For BGA students, the program can be done in parallel with the "Level 4" of the "Fast Track Comprehensive Guitar Program" or in parallel with the "Rock & Metal Electric Guitar Program".

Guitar Required: Steel String Acoustic Guitar or Electric Guitar

Program Overview

Scale Theory & Scale Shapes

  • Learn the fundamental theory of Major & Minor scales and relative minor

  • Learn various shapes of Major, Minor and Pentatonic scales across the fretboard using a simplified "Finger type" method

  • Learn scales like blues scale, harmonic minor, melodic minor, etc.

  • Learn the theory behind modes and learn the major and minor modes like ionian, lydian, dorian, phrygian etc.

  • Learn to use scales to create runs and phrases for solos

Chord Theory & Harmony

  • Learn about chord family and Key which is the basic fundamental for composing songs.

  • Learn how to transpose songs to a different key and various reasons for transposing songs.

  • Learn the theory of chord construction, triads and chord inversions

  • Learn about 7th chords and 7th chord harmony with various chord progressions examples

  • Learn chord formation theory of extended chords like 9th, 11th etc., and suspended chords

  • Learn to figure out various chord shapes across the fretboard using triads and chord inversions

  • Learn various ways the major, minor, 7th, suspended chords etc. are used in chord progressions  

Improvisation & Composition

  • Learn the difference between improvisation and composition

  • Learn the concept of consonants and dissonants and how to use them in composition

  • Learn the step by step approach to compose solos against chord backing tracks using scales

  • Analyze the chords & progressions, riffs, solos etc. from various songs to understand the theory behind the compositions

  • Learn various aspects of chords and chord harmony to compose musical pieces
